Balance boards and wobble boards are becoming a sizable icon in the arena of training, emerging with different makers, their separate transporting totes, different sizes and shapes and a vast number of exercises to go with them. Since the concept is simple, these exercises require, as the name implies, balance.
The basic design of all balance boards and wobble boards are similar, it is a piece of material put over a smaller piece of material so it may move either direction. Most of the time these are rounded along the edges and carved into an oval shape, with a small foam or rubber tube beneath it that it sits on. The terms balance board, and wobble board can be used rather interchangeably, since their purposes are almost the same and wobble boards are just balance boards in which the bottom piece is joined to a top piece, making the top component of the cylinder, that attaches at the plank, straight where they come together.
Wobble boards were initially developed for skiers and then later on surfers, to train while it wasn't their season, yet since then it has developed into a pilates training method for all sports, and some styles of karate for physical exercise. The wobble board not only helps improve balance but brain coordination, bodyweight distribution along with core muscular strength. Wobble boards also aid developmentally challenged teens because teetering helps the brain build sensory abilities. It has even been utilized by ballerinas to learn to become lighter on their toes, and for guitarists and vocalists to understand the control of airflow, and how to grasp their musical instrument while remaining under control. Some declare the wobble board improves writers block and encourages originality.
The levels of challenge vary due to the different angles of degree you may set them at when balancing. A three year old or a senior generally will top out around ten degrees on a balance board, while a skier or yoga teacher can manage about 24 degrees. To travel from 10 to 16 degrees takes approximately seven months of regular practice. To go from sixteen to twenty-two degrees can demand about two and a half years of practice, several times each day. Balance boards might not appear to be the most challenging pilates exercise, but as you can see, it is one that takes effort, patience, plus a good talent at balancing.
With its range of uses, you can understand why balance boards and wobble boards are becoming so popular in our society, due to everyone using them from musicians, snowboarders, to handicapped children and pilates instructors. It is an effective and simple tool that is easy to construct and normal to find, and it is a fun way to exercise.
